Childhood immunization, travel and other vaccinations

Consistent with our focus on preventative health, we strongly recommend appropriate vaccinations at different stages of your life.

We provide a wide range of vaccination services, including childhood vaccines, vaccines for new parents and expectant mothers, whooping cough and tetanus boosters, vaccination against influenza, pneumonia and meningitis, and a range of travel vaccines.

Influenza vaccines are provided free for all patients over 65 years of age, as well as those with chronic illness such as asthma and heart disease.  The flu vaccine is required yearly.

All female patients contemplating pregnancy should have their rubella, whooping cough and chickenpox vaccination status checked.  All new or expectant parents are encouraged to have the whooping cough vaccine to protect your baby from this deadly disease.

For overseas travel, please consult your doctor about necessary vaccines at least one month (preferably 6 months) before departure.  Most travel vaccines are available here at the clinic.

A variety of other vaccinations may be appropriate depending on your age and gender.  Please consult your doctor for further advice.

Pap smear, breast examination and bowel cancer screening

We recommend that all women from 18 to 70 years old, who have been sexually active to have a pap smear every 2 years.

All women should examine their own breasts for lumps.  Ask you doctor for a demonstration.  We also recommend yearly breast examination by your doctor and if you are over 40, 2 yearly mammogram.

Bowel cancer screening should commence with 2 yearly faecal occult blood test from the age of 50, or earlier if there is family history.

Blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes check

Diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol can produce no symptoms.   Yet, if left undetected, these conditions can wreak havoc to your health.  Please check your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose regularly with your doctor.

Health assessment, medication review and chronic disease management plans

If you are 75 years or older, you would benefit from an annual preventative health assessment. This assessment is completely paid for by medicare and there is no out of pocket cost.   It is comprehensive, with substantial time devoted to identifying your health issues and needs.   We highly recommend it.  Please enquire and make your booking at reception.

If you have a complex list of medications, ask your doctor if you would benefit from a home medicine review.

Finally, if you suffer from one or more chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart condition or asthma, you may benefit from a health management plan for care planning and coordination.  Please ask your doctor for more details.

Complementary medicine

The comprehensive healthcare we offer include specialist allied health services.  Currently we offer a highly experienced team of podiatrist, physiotherapist and acupuncturists.  Please ask your doctor or reception to find out more about these services and if they will benefit you.
